Seven women emerge from the mountains at first light, each cradling a glowing bulb as tenderly as a newborn flame.

The first idea for The Dawning came to me during the 2018 midterm elections, when I was struck by the number of women stepping into public leadership. I sketched a group of women walking out from the mountains carrying light. That early drawing later became this painting, a symbolic vision of women bringing insight, courage, and new possibilities into the world.

In this magical realist scene, dawn breaks over purple peaks as the figures move forward together. Their individual colors suggest distinct lives and identities, while their shared direction gives them a sense of collective strength. The light bulbs represent ideas, awareness, and the inner illumination we carry through periods of uncertainty and change.

Created from my original hand-painted acrylic painting on canvas, this museum print combines symbolic storytelling with cinematic light and a powerful vertical composition. It can bring a sense of purpose and quiet strength to an office, studio, entryway, reading room, meditation space, or any room devoted to reflection and possibility.
